Do you ever find yourself thinking, "Noah's blog is nice and all, but I wish there was a way he could really invade my computer"? The Noah Screen Saver could be just the thing for you!
The screen saver periodically fetches images from the blog when you're connected to the Internet but not actively using bandwidth. It ought to work well even on dialup connections.
To install, follow these steps.
- Make sure you are running a recent version of Windows (I've only tested with Windows XP). Sorry, it doesn't work with Mac, Linux, or Windows 98.
- Download and install Microsoft's .NET Framework 2.0. It is a fairly hefty download, but the screen saver absolutely will not run without it. (Think you might already have it installed? You can skip this step, and when you try to install the screen saver, it'll immediately let you know if .NET 2.0 is not installed.)
- Download and install the screen saver.
Some frequently asked questions so far:
- When the screensaver runs, all I see is a black screen; where are the pictures?
If you have just installed the screen saver, your first batch of photos are probably still being downloaded. Try again in a few minutes.
- Do I have to be connected to the Internet for the screen saver to work?
Nope. The pictures from the blog are saved to your hard drive, so you don't need to be connected.
- How do I run the screen saver? Do I have to wait for it to automatically kick in?
You can start it yourself by going to Start | Programs | Noah Screen Saver.
- I switched to a different screen saver and want to switch back to Noah's screen saver, but it's not one of the choices in the Display control panel.
Go to Start | Programs | Noah Screen Saver, but instead of left-clicking it, right-click and select Install.
- How do I uninstall the screen saver?
You can uninstall the screen saver just like any other program, by going to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs, and finding the Noah Screen Saver entry.
